Do I need batteries with the system?

No. Our grid-connected system effectively uses the electricity grid as a storage system, which means if you are not home during the day any excess power flows into the grid, and spins your meter into credit. You then consume power as per usual when you come home at night and you will only be charged for the extra power you consume over and above what your solar panels have produced.
